Questions and Answers
What is a Cleco?

The Cleco system is a re-usable spring loaded fastener, basically serving as an easy-to-use temporary rivet.

They will pull together two or more layers with a total thickness up to 1/4" thick - that's impressive!

Often referred to as a removable panel fastener or Cleco pin, they're a very helpful tool and considered priceless by experienced fabricators.

How do I use Clecos?

Pro-werks Cleco spring loaded fasteners are very easy to use: grab the special Cleco pliers simply insert the expanding end in to a pre-drilled pilot hole of the material to be held, and release to accurately position the panel—it's now held tight and on location.

When satisfactory final fit up is achieved, the drilled pilot hole may be either plug welded, riveted or enlarged to the appropriate size for a mounting bolt, Dzus type button or Cam lock fastener. It is recommended to use a unibit drill bit when enlarging the pilot hole in thin panel materials.

What is the history behind Clecos?

Clecos originated in the aircraft industry - primarily developed for pre-fitting and finish installation of skin on airplanes and rockets. It didn't take long for the rest of the world to discover the benefits and versatility of the steel bodied Cleco fastener.

This temporary fastening solution is now used extensively by professionals and DIY's in many areas of race car construction, hot rod fabrication and auto restoration. Cleco fasteners are invaluable and affordable tool for all types of fabricating projects.
